Japanese giant salamanders are almost entirely aquatic and spend their lives in the rivers where they make their home.  That’s why it was a big shock for high school student Yu when he spotted a giant salamander leisurely strolling down a path in Kyoto.  Yu paused to video the animal, and then asked police to guard it as it continued its journey.  Eventually, the salamander made its way back to the river, and Yu’s video made its way to international news.
